About
I like to wander the shoreline of life, picking up moments to look at them closely. You might think of me as a seeker or dreamer or artist or even idiot, but I think of myself, and all poets, as an alchemists who like to capture essences. And for reasons unknown, we brew them into words — poignant, playful, fragrant, crunchy, evocative creations that ask you to feel how fragile and astonishing it is to be alive.
This site is dedicated to the seekers, dreamers, artists and idiots of this world who just can’t settle for less than the beauty of a pure moment. I hope my poems touch and inspire you.
Meet Elizabeth Harris
Elizabeth has been a poet since childhood. “I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in a small town on the shore of Lake Superior. It’s a place of nature, raw and beautiful. As a child, there was much freedom to roam.
I met my Muse for the first time on the white sand beaches of Superior. Sometimes she whispered to me and sometimes she roared, but she always coaxed me to the dance between spirit and nature. She continues to inspire me, regardless of her capricious ways.
Elizabeth lives in Bellingham, Washington. She is the author of Bone Dance (published in 2003) and is working on her second book, With Softer Eyes. Her poems have also been published in literary magazines and websites.
Bone Dance is a collection of poems that express the deep relationship between the vital human spirit and the mystifying larger world. Sometimes raw, mostly soulful, often lusty and always poignant, this collection is a romp through the joys, pitfalls, realizations and indignation we all confront on our journey through life.
Harris is a contemplative writer whose poems tell stories of discovery as well as loss. She braids together mischief, commentary and the dark night of the soul in ways that will make you laugh, cry and relate to every word. This little book is a treasure, a must read, for those seeking the true nature of the human spirit expressed in the language of the poet.
Be still and listen
to the sound of
your life looking for you.
Rich and juicy
it whispers your name
asking only that
you answer
clearly…I am here.
